Undoubtedly, you've seen or heard 2 Chronicles 7:14 quoted or cited or mentioned in recent days. It's a popular verse when the state of our nation seems to be worsening in a variety of ways. Certainly, now is a time for the church to be praying. But what does this verse actually mean? How is it particularly relevant to today's issues? In today's devotional reflection, we will examine the context of this verse and see more clearly how (and how not to) understand and apply this verse today.
PLEASE NOTE: This video for today was recorded on Monday afternoon, before I became aware of a prayer meeting held in our town under the banner of 2 Chronicles 7:14. So, please don't hear my comments as in any way criticizing our brothers and sisters who hosted this meeting, or in any way calling into question the validity of that particular prayer meeting. My desire is simply to call for a careful usage of Scripture, to shape our expectations of God's involvement in our lives according to the Scriptures, and to draw out the biblical motivations for prayer.
